Can’t Leave Town But Need a Vacation? 5 Tips for a Baltimore Staycation

Can’t Leave Town But Need a Vacation? 5 Tips for a Baltimore Staycation.png

Getting out of town for a break can be a great salve for the stress of day-to-day life. And while a change of scenery is sometimes needed, it is not always possible. It can be challenging to take longer breaks from work, juggling your children’s camp and school calendars, finding someone to leave your pets with, not to mention the expenses of traveling. Although it is crucial to ‘get away’ from time to time, it is also possible to create a true vacation for yourself and your family in your hometown. Baltimore and its surrounding areas offer various activities and resources to fulfill your best vacation needs. Plus, with all the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it can be hard to appreciate our area sometimes and take advantage of all the things that make where we live special. So set aside some time on your calendar, and start planning your perfect Baltimore staycation.

Consider Booking a Hotel or Airbnb

Just because you aren’t traveling doesn’t mean you have to stay at home! A great way to feel like you are genuinely on vacation, even though you’re not skipping town, is to stay somewhere special. With all the money you save by not traveling, you can spend it on accommodations. Baltimore has no shortage of beautiful hotels to book your stay. Maybe you want to be downtown so you can walk to the Aquarium or an Orioles game, or perhaps you simply want to visit a neighborhood that is different from your own, like Fells Point or Mount Vernon!

Visit a Brewery or Winery

The Baltimore metropolitan area is flush with incredible breweries and vineyards. There is enough variety to satisfy any beer or wine lover’s needs. Plus, these places are often family-friendly. Pack a picnic and sit on a beautiful vineyard for the afternoon while the adults taste wines, or play corn hole at Flying Dog in Frederick with the kids while enjoying a flight of locally crafted beers.

Plan a Spa Day

Nothing says vacation quite like spending the day being pampered. Places like the Four Seasons in Harbor East offer a wide range of services, from pedicures to full-body massages. PLUS, you can spend the rest of the day enjoying their spa, complete with hot and cold baths, cucumber water, and a sauna, while enjoying gorgeous views of the harbor.

Try a New Restaurant

When we’ve been living in an area for a long time, we develop our tried and true favorite restaurants and cafes. Planning a staycation is a great excuse to break out of your routine and try something new. Maybe go to a coffee shop in a different neighborhood, or book a reservation at that fancy restaurant you’ve wanted to try. You can even venture to other places within driving distance, like booking dinner at a restaurant in Ellicott City or Frederick. Pro Tip: To make the meal feel extra special, go to a second location for dessert.

We hope these tips help inspire you to plan an epic break in your own backyard. It can be easy to fall into daily life tasks, so be sure to truly block off your schedule and set up an out-of-office message. And most importantly, remember to indulge yourself — you’re on staycation!
