Diverse Culture

Did you know Maryland is on the Mason-Dixon line? That means that it’s technically in the south, but many consider Maryland to be a northern state. Maryland, especially in its metropolitan areas, boasts a diverse population and rich culture. The latest census reported that Maryland is now the East Coast’s most diverse state. Less than half of Maryland’s population is white, and Hispanic and Asian populations have seen an increase in numbers over the last decade.

Close Proximity to Other Cities

One of the best things about living in Maryland is the state’s close proximity to other exciting metropolitan areas. The city of Baltimore is only about a 45-minute drive to Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia is only about an hour and a half away. If you want to do a bigger day trip, New York City is only a three-hour drive from Baltimore. It’s exciting to live in a state where easy day trips are just a short drive away.

Strong Economy

The state of Maryland has one of the strongest economies in our country. Howard County is the 11th wealthiest county in the nation. One reason for this is that the aerospace industry in Maryland generates over $800 billion in revenue. Residents are also in close proximity to Washington, D.C., which pays government contractors well for work with the United States government.

A Deep History

Maryland is a unique state when it comes to a deep history of American achievements. Did you know the very first railroad station is in Maryland? The first major highway project also began in Maryland in 1811 with the construction of the Historic National Road from Cumberland to Missouri.

The Great Outdoors

If you love the great outdoors, then Maryland is the state for you! Almost half of the state is covered in trees and the Chesapeake Bay takes up most of the eastern side of the state. Not only can you explore dense forests and stunning mountain ranges, but Maryland also has a variety of islands, beaches, and freshwater creeks throughout the state.
